Saudades para D. Genciana

Synopsis

A Lisbon neighborhood in 1918/26, unveiling the bizarre aspects and eccentric figures of city life, including the tragedy of actress Maria Alves, murdered by her own manager. A boarding house on the new Avenida de Almirante Reis, and the loves of Genciana - a woman with a mysterious past and an uncertain future - who arouses the curiosity of her neighbors. The rise of commerce and the army is matched by the fading of typical figures from Lisbon's history, of which Dona Genciana and the actress are probably the most characteristic, remembered with nostalgia by the young aspiring writer, who has now become a civil servant. The memory of a different Lisbon is drawn, perhaps an impossible one, made up of illusions and hopes, transfigured by the nostalgia of adolescence.
