Os Verdes Anos

Synopsis

Nineteen-year-old Júlio comes to Lisbon to try his luck as a shoemaker. On the day he arrives, an incident leads him to meet Ilda, a young woman of the same age who works as a maid in a house near the workshop. Júlio finds himself in a strange and hostile environment, and a series of adventures unfold that make him distrust Ilda.

"'Os Verdes Anos' is the coming of age story of two youngsters from the province that come into the problems of the city and of love. It is a subject that is very close to my personal experience. I too was forced to move to Lisbon. 'Os Verdes Anos' was born of a double project: the fascination that certain more modern areas of the city exerted on me, living near rural areas in the process of urbanization - an urban project, thus a meditation on modern Lisbon - and the inner need to solve a very popular problem - the crime of passion, a daily reality in the newspapers."
