César Valente, a member of the underground resistance to the fascist regime, returns from exile to start a revolution on May the 28th, 1936, on the exact day that the dictatorship celebrates its tenth anniversary. However, through direct contact with the “ new regime's work” and after falling in love with Maria Clara, a nurse at the Alfredo da Costa Maternity Hospital, Valente gradually converts to the regime's ideology. At the end of the film, the political police, who had limited themselves to monitoring all the movements of the “Bolshevik agitators”, no longer even consider it necessary to arrest him: the regime now has another fervent supporter.
