Synopsis

The filmmaker speaks with members of the Roma community, who present themselves before the camera, sharing biographical details such as their names, professional activities, family composition, and geographical origins. Despite a centuries-long historical presence in Portugal and a deep territorial and linguistic integration, this community continues to face processes of marginalization and social exclusion, and is frequently subjected to stigmatization and mistrust, dynamics that are now also observed in relation to other migrant groups. Drawing on a historical approach that reaches back to the fifteenth century, the film explores the trajectories of this group in Portugal, as well as their relationships with the surrounding society. It also examines how the 25 April 1974 Revolution transformed—or failed to transform—their living conditions and their interactions with the population outside the community.
