Synopsis
After seven years of searching for her husband, a nobleman who left with King Sebastião for the Alcácer-Quibir disaster, Madalena de Vilhena marries the knight Manuel de Sousa Coutinho and has a daughter, Maria, struck down by a fatal illness. Only her uncle Telmo Pais preserves the hope that João de Portugal is alive, an augury that is confirmed after two decades in the form of a pilgrim.
