Synopsis
LONGE DAQUI was a production marked by mishaps and shortcomings, but it reveals a rare vision and sensitivity. It marked João Guerra’s directorial debut, as he made his first film the first “Portuguese road movie,” following two young men on the road through the north of the country at the wheel of a beautiful and photogenic 1957 Ford Fairlane, whose mechanics conceal secrets known only to the mysterious old mechanic played by Canto e Castro.
Digitisation
This copy results from the 4K digitization of the original 35mm camera negative and the 35mm optical sound negative, materials preserved by Cinemateca. The digitization and colour grading were carried out in 2024 as part of a partnership between Cineric Portugal and Irma Lucia Efeitos Especiais, while the digital sound restoration was undertaken by Billyboom studio, using a distribution print as reference. The digitization process was supervised by the director. Digitization by Cinemateca Portuguesa - Museu do Cinema, under the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan. A measure integrated into the Next Generation EU program.
