The preparation and development of festivities in the archaic lands of the north-east of Trás-os-Montes, in a celebration of the Winter Cycle - from Christmas to Ash Wednesday, as part of the Festas dos Rapazes, Santo Estevão, Christmas, New Year's Eve, of Reis and, in special cases, Carnival. Linked to the birth/life/death cycle, all the corresponding elements are represented through the masquerades and their rituals.
