Synopsis
From the last quarter of the 15th century, the Portuguese embarked on an adventure - the attempt to discover the passage to India from the west. In this way, they reached parts of Newfoundland, further north to Labrador and even Greenland itself. Regions rich in fish, particularly cod, it was Newfoundland, with the voyages of the Corte Real family, that became the most frequented. Thus, the first steps were taken towards the beginning of an activity that would have a great future amongst the portuguese - cod fishing.
